Your Starting Point Doesn’t Matter

A lot of people I speak to seem to be waiting for the “right time” to start training, and I hear the same things quite often. People will say they’ll start when they are fitter, or when they’ve lost a bit of weight first, or when they feel a bit more confident in themselves.

But the honest truth is, there is never really a perfect starting point for anyone.

From working with clients over the years, I’ve seen every type of starting point you can imagine. Some people walk into a gym for the very first time feeling completely unsure of what they are doing. Others are coming back after injury, illness, or a long break from training. Some people are already active but feel stuck and just need a bit of structure again.

What I’ve learned is that it doesn’t actually matter where you start from, because every single person improves once they decide to just begin.

Progress doesn’t come from waiting until everything feels right. It comes from turning up as you are, with what you’ve got right now, and building from there step by step.

You don’t need to get to a certain level before you start. You don’t need to feel ready. You don’t need to tick some imaginary box first.

You just need to start.

And once you do start, that is when things begin to change. Your confidence builds, your consistency improves, and you start to realise you are capable of more than you thought.

If you are even thinking about starting, then you are already closer than you realise.
